09/12/10: Nippers' swims moved due to rough conditions

Nippers from Macksville-Scotts Head Surf Club took on some rough conditions to be part of a meet at Bonny Hills on Sunday (5th).

A total of 13 Macksville-Scotts Head nippers were at the event, which had to be relocated during the morning session due to rough surf conditions and the high tide.

The swimming events were held in Lake Cathie during the morning. Onlookers endured miserable conditions before the weather cleared during the afternoon, but the participants enjoyed the calm, warm water of the lake.

The swims were still a challenge, with distances longer than usual.

Macksville-Scotts Head participants had a successful and fun meet, with Elise Sutherland taking out the under-13s swim section. The results on the day were:

Under-9s: Lucy Spain – fifth in boards, third in flags, fifth in sprint.
Under-11s: Garth Watson – fifth in the flags.
Under-12s: Peta Salter – sixth in swim, fifth in flags; Claire Spain – sixth in flags.
Under-13s: Elise Sutherland – first in swim; Sophie Atkins – fourth in swim and fourth in boards.

The next nippers competition will be held in February next year, but Macksville-Scotts Head Surf Club will hold a Christmas party barbecue this Sunday to celebrate the silly season.

03/11/10: Nippers' great season start

A team of 17 nippers from Macksville-Scotts Head Junior Club set off to Hat Head for the first interbranch qualifying carnival for the season on Sunday, November 7.

This was the very first carnival for our under-9's competitors and they should be proud of their efforts.

A big high for the day was Elise Sutherland's win in the under-13's swim with a massive lead of around 25m. Well done.

There were also some well-earned ribbons and places on the day as follows:

Boys – Blake Brunsdon U10's 3rd boards; Garth Watson U11's 5th flags; Peter Perkinson U11's 4th iron-person, 6th swim and 6th boards; David Perkinson U13's 4th boards, 5th swim and 5th iron-person.

Girls – Lucy Spain U9's 2nd flags, 5th sprint; Hunter Flanders U10's 3rd boards; Peta Salter U12's 2nd sprint, 4th boards, 4th iron-person, 5th swim and 6th flags; Elise Sutherland U13's 1st swim, 3rd iron-person and 6th flags; Kate Shaw U14's 4th swim.

Compared to many of the other clubs competing on the day we are only a small club but our kids put up a great fight and should be congratulated on their achievements and team spirit.
